What email marketing costs a Perth business (the platform, the build and the monthly running), what to send each month, and when you don't need an agency yet.

Most Perth businesses already have what email marketing needs: past customers, old enquiries and people who bought once and never came back. What holds them back is not knowing what it costs or what to send. This covers both, including what we charge, and when you don't need an agency at all.
Want it done for you?
We build and run email marketing in Klaviyo for Perth businesses and online stores.
There are three separate costs. Quotes get hard to compare when they are lumped together, so it helps to split them out.

Doing it yourself works when the list is small and you have time to write one good email a month. A freelancer suits a one-off job, like a welcome series or a template. An agency makes sense when you want email planned and run every month alongside your website, SEO and ads, so they all point the same way.
Email comes in two kinds. Automated flows send on their own when someone does something, like joining your list or leaving a checkout. Campaigns are the emails you choose to send. Get the flows in first: welcome, abandoned cart or enquiry, post-purchase and win-back. Our marketing automation guide covers which to build and in what order. The rest of this section is about campaigns.
Start with what you can keep up. For most service businesses, one or two useful emails a month, every month, beats a weekly send that stops after six weeks. Online stores usually send more often, built around launches, restocks and sales.
Give each email one main point and one next step: book, reply, call or shop. Most people will read it on a phone, so check it there before it goes.
Not always the whole list. Sending to people who have opened, clicked or bought recently protects your sender reputation and keeps your emails landing in the inbox. Our Klaviyo setup guide for ecommerce brands goes through the segments and deliverability habits in detail.
Fridgy is a Western Australian drinkware brand that sells through its own Shopify store. We build its email in Klaviyo as a mix of planned campaigns and automated flows.
That is why the flows go in before the campaign calendar. The full picture is in the Fridgy case study.
Under the Spam Act 2003, a marketing email needs the person's consent, has to say who it is from, and needs a working unsubscribe that is honoured within five business days. Bought lists fail the consent test. Gmail and Yahoo also expect bulk senders to authenticate their domain and offer one-click unsubscribe, so that setup is part of the cost, not an extra.
There are three parts. The email platform charges a monthly fee based on how many contacts you have, and you pay it directly. The setup is a one-off piece of work at the start. Then there is the monthly running: writing, designing, sending and reporting. Our email marketing retainers start at $800 including GST, billed every 4 weeks, and are custom quoted above that.
As often as you can send something worth opening. For most service businesses that is one or two emails a month, sent every month. Online stores usually send more, around launches and sales. Your automated flows keep running in between, whatever your campaign schedule is.
One main point per email: a useful tip, a recent job or review, an offer with a real reason and an end date, or news about the business. Give it one clear next step, like booking, replying or shopping, and make sure it reads well on a phone.
Yes. If your list is small and you have time to write one good email a month, you can start yourself. Klaviyo's free plan covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month. Bring in help when the list grows, when you want automated flows set up properly, or when the monthly send keeps getting pushed back.
Not always. The right platform is the one that connects to where your sales or enquiries happen. We build every email programme in Klaviyo, and for Shopify stores it is usually the best fit because flows can use what people browse, add to cart and buy.
